Gladiators trained for years, but the outcome of a fight still depended on things they could not control. Slots are the extreme version of that: the result of each spin is fixed by software before the reels stop, and nothing you do between spins changes it. This guide explains the numbers that do matter (RTP, house edge, volatility, hit frequency and bonus buys) and what the bonus terms of GladiatorsBet change when you play slots with bonus money. All examples are labelled assumptions, not measurements.
RTP and house edge
RTP (return to player) is the share of all stakes a game is designed to pay back over a very large number of spins. The rest is the house edge. A slot with 96% RTP has a 4% edge.
Assumption: a slot with 96% RTP, €1 per spin, 500 spins. You stake €500 in total, and the expected loss is 4% of that, €20. Your real result after 500 spins can be far above or below this figure; RTP describes the long run, not your session.
Many providers release the same game in several RTP versions, and the casino chooses which one it runs. The figure that applies is the one shown in the game's own info or help screen at that casino, not a number from a review.
Volatility and hit frequency
Volatility describes how the return is distributed. Low-volatility slots pay small amounts often; high-volatility slots pay rarely but can pay large amounts, so your balance swings much more. Two games with the same RTP can feel completely different.
Hit frequency is the share of spins that pay anything at all. Assumption: a hit frequency of 25% means roughly one paying spin in four, and many of those wins are smaller than the stake. A win that is smaller than the stake is still a loss on that spin, even if the game celebrates it.
Bonus buys
Some slots let you pay to enter the bonus round directly, and GladiatorsBet lists a Bonus Buy section in its lobby. Assumption: a feature priced at 100 times the stake costs €50 at a €0.50 stake. The purchase does not remove the house edge; it compresses many spins' worth of risk into one payment, so results swing harder. Check the info screen: some games state a separate RTP for the purchased feature.
Why no strategy changes the odds
- Stake size changes how much you win or lose, not the percentage. Old advice to bet the maximum during bonus rounds does not work, because the round triggers at random and your stake is already fixed when it does.
- Timing (time of day, after a big win, after a long dry spell) has no effect; each spin is independent. The myths are covered in our article on slot myths.
- Stop rules such as a loss limit or a time limit are useful, but they control your total stake, not the odds. Faster play simply means more spins per hour and a larger expected loss.
What GladiatorsBet's bonus terms change for slot play
Bonus money comes with rules that matter more to your result than any spin technique. According to the general bonus terms (last updated 13 February 2026, checked 2 October 2026):
- Bet limits: while a casino bonus is active, the minimum bet is €0.50 and the maximum €5 per spin or bet. The general terms (clause 1.8) speak of €5 or 15% of the bonus, whichever comes first, so the two documents do not match; follow the stricter limit.
- Game contributions: slots count 100% towards wagering, virtual games 50%, table games 20% and lucky games 50%. Live casino does not count for casino bonuses.
- Excluded games: a long list of titles does not count at all, among them Sweet Bonanza, Dead or Alive, Blood Suckers, Aviator, Spaceman, Mines and Plinko. Check the list before you pick a game.
- Win caps: winnings from deposit bonuses are capped by bonus size, for example at 8 times the deposit for bonuses of 120 to 149% and 10 times for 100 to 119%. Free-spin winnings are capped at €100 unless the offer says otherwise.
Worked example (assumptions: first welcome deposit of €100, 96% RTP slot, all play on contributing slots): the welcome package gives 125% on the first deposit, so €125 bonus. Wagering is 30 times deposit plus bonus: 30 × €225 = €6,750 in stakes. At a 4% edge the expected loss over that turnover is about €270, more than the €125 bonus. The bonus is 125%, so the win cap is 8 times the deposit, €800. A bonus can stretch your play, but it rarely turns the maths in your favour. The full offer list is on our bonuses page.
Country check: the operator's general terms (clause 2.5.4) do not accept accounts from, among others, Germany, Austria, France, the Netherlands, Spain, the United Kingdom and the USA, and its bonus terms (clause 1.15) exclude players from France, the Netherlands, Spain and other countries from all bonuses. Accounts can be suspended and winnings withheld, so read the terms before you register.

Frequently asked questions
Can any strategy improve my odds on a slot?
No. Every spin is decided by a random number generator, and stake size, timing or spin speed do not change the return percentage. A plan can only control how much you stake and for how long.
Should I bet the maximum during bonus rounds?
No. A bonus round is triggered at random, and your stake is fixed at the moment it triggers, so a higher stake only raises the amount at risk. Only a few games, mostly older progressive jackpots, tie a prize to the maximum bet, and their info screen says so.
